What is sociology ?

 Sociology is the scientific study of people in groups—from friendship networks to communities to entire nations. Sociologists describe the characteristics of social groups and consider explanations for social stability and social change. They promote critical thinking on issues such as social inequality, racial and ethnic conflict, law and justice, and the role of gender and sexuality.

History :

The department was established in 1971, and it grants the BA degree in sociology and social work. It also awards MA and PhD degrees in Sociology and a higher diploma in Social Research. The department is committed to providing a strong, broad education in sociology and social work, and the training and skills required to prepare students for advanced graduate education and successful careers in their chosen field
