As part of the cultural program sponsored by Prince Khalid Al Faisal Chair for Consolidating the Saudi Moderation Approach, the Editor in Chief of Al-Jazirah daily newspaper Mr. Khaled Al-Malik gave a lecture on Monday, February 6th, 2012 at the College of Arts Conference Hall. The lecture titled The journalistic Experience in the Kingdom in the Light of the Saudi Moderation Approach was attended by H.E the president of the University, the Vice Presidents and College Deans. Also in attendance were a number of intellectuals, writers, academics and media personalities as well as students.
At the outset of his lecture, Mr. Al-Malik spoke about how our society strongly opposes radical extremism in all forms. He then highlighted the crucial role played by the media in fighting violent extremism whose sole purpose is to wreak havoc in by terrorizing the innocents.
He also said that the late King Abdulaziz was the true founder of the Saudi moderation approach, and that today we should all embrace the vision articulated by His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal which is summarized in the following key terms:(No to Extremism, No to Excommunication (Takfir), No to Westernization, Yes to Moderation).
The guest speaker then demonstrated how the policy of the Kingdom is centered on moderation and the fight of extremism. He also stressed the fact that modern technologies and the New Media are posing a serious challenge to Saudi media in the way defending its moderate approach.
At the end of the lecture an active discussion ensued and interesting questions were addressed.
