Abstract |

This study deals with the problem of cognitive atheism that followed the Age of Enlightment in Europe. This problem was the result of certain philosophies and methods that led to the denial of the existence of a creator of this universe, or the denial of all that is beyond this physical world.
The study also reviews examples of the literature written by Muslim scholars and thinkers to illustrate their efforts and methods in various issues.
The significance of this study lies in the dire need for understanding the dimensions of the problem of atheism in all its forms and degrees. In addition, knowing about the methods that dealt with this issue could help rationalizing the scientific results and the exerted efforts and identifying their shortcomings as well.
In this study, the analytical approach is used, by tracing the origin of the categories of atheism and analyzing them, within their contexts, as well as identifying their sources of influence and formation. Besides, the critical approach is used by discussing the categories of atheism and by criticizing the foundations and principles that have led to their formation.
The study is divided into the following:
A Preface: which contains a definition of atheism and its causes, in addition to two chapters: Chapter One: It includes examples of the most important modern theories, with studying and discussing them.Chapter Two: It includes examples of the literature written by Muslim scholars classified according to the methods used.
The study has reached several conclusions, the most important of which are:
The term (Atheism) is a developed terminology. It signifies the denial of the existence of the Creator by those interested in thought and philosophy. And the strongest catalyst for atheism is the despotic, distorted religious thought. Theories of atheism contain elements that may refute the categories of atheism in them. And Muslim scholars have long- exerted efforts in this regard. But yet, the Arab library still needs more efforts.
The study has made a number of recommendations, among the
most important of which are:
To benefit from the West’s experience and literature that have tackled the philosophy of religion by translation, explanation and care of the methods used, which are within the boundaries of religious sciences in the epistemological sense. The study recommends teach philosophy, in its various eras and trends, and include it in the educational curricula considering it a part of the cognitive structure for the coming generations. And the study suggests stablish university chairs that are concerned with the philosophy of religion and its epistemological studies, and attract specialists in various fields. Also, to send students abroad for higher studies in these fields of specialty. We are still in lack of such fields in spite of their importance. |
